[The trial came and went. And Jim was found innocent, but at what cost, really. That his mentor that he had tried to help was willing to let him take that fall up to the end. Then the guy got away anyway when no one was looking. Tough three days all around. He's glad at least there was the support from his defense attorney and assistant, but he feels pretty bad lying to them this whole time, especially when it just blew up in his face.

He takes a deep breath and sits on the steps outside the courthouse, just. Watching. Watching people leave, watching the cars on the street. He should go home, but he doesn't really want to. Not yet.]

[Good thing Jim hadn't left yet.

Despite Nick's obvious irritation with Jim the entire time, Nick is a softie who does feel for Jim, so it hadn't been hard for Maya to convince Nick to hurry on home while she set out on a 'mission'. She'd take care of it, she'd assured him, let her talk to him, go home.

She's pleased to see Jim hasn't left the courthouse yet when she steps outside, and tiptoes up to him, taking a seat at his side. Knees together, hands on her knees, she leeeans forward so that she can get a look at his face despite the slouch, like a nosy cat.]

You do know a 'not guilty' means you get to leave, right?

[Jim doesn't move when she sits down, just keeps his eyes outward. But --]

Uh- Yeah, I. I know. [he takes a slow breath, rubs at the back of his neck and looks at her, then back out at the street.] Been a long few days.

... Shouldn't you be wrapping up paperwork or something?

[Laughs Maya. Come on, Jim fuck paperwork right after a case it's burger time or nothing.]
